About the 2010 AKC

Kendo is one of the oldest Japanese martial arts and means "the way of the sword". By wearing the armor and fighting with bamboo swords, it was originally developed as a means for the samurai (warrior class) to train without seriously injuring or killing one another. It has steadily developed into a modern sport, yet still retains its aesthetic, martial and spiritual traditions.

Since 1975 the Australian Kendo Renmei and its affiliated state governing bodies have held a national championship. This year Victoria has the honour of hosting the 35th Australian Kendo Championship which will see the best of the best from 6 states.

The Taikai (Competition) is comprised of 9 titles including both team and individual events, and is followed by gradings and seminars.
